Artist's Statement

I have enjoyed the development of watercolor techniques over many years. The subject matter is mostly of landscape and urban environments that have been part of my family's life in the US and beyond, Europe most especially. France and Spain offer special images of travels. Of late, the adventure of acrylic and the start of oil sketching is underway. Both representational and abstract paintings are being explored with the good help of art teachers at the Denver Art Student League.

Alan was first trained in watercolor painting as a student in architecture at CU/Boulder. He and his family lived in France for 3 years, traveled in Europe, Asia and South America. He opened a two person design firm in Boulder with Art Everett, 1964. Then, moved to Denver LoDo and co-founded OZ Architecture with Tom Obermeier. Returned to watercolor painting, studied at Denver Art Student League and many workshops under Artist Dennis Pendleton and is a Signature Membership of the Colorado Watercolor Society.
